Goodbye from Glasgow!

On behalf of the MRC Network of Hubs for Trials Methodology Research, I would like to thank everyone who made the 3rd International Clinical Trials Methodology Conference at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre on 16 and 17 November 2015, such a success. These Conferences have gone from strength to strength, following the first one in Bristol in 2011, and Edinburgh in 2013; and we look forward to Liverpool in May 2017.

The conference highlighted many ways in which methodology research can help us with the "heavy lifting" of facing these challenging, but exciting, times for clinical trials. There were ideas and evidence on how to improve recruitment and retention, how to streamline the trial process, make better use of information technology and embed methodology research into trials, such as through SWAT (Studies Within A Trial), and much more besides. The conference showed how, by working together, we can improve the quality of research, minimise waste and provide the knowledge that patients, practitioners, policy makers and the public need to make well-informed decisions about health and social care.

We are grateful to the Scientific Committee, co-chaired by Professor Deborah Ashby and Professor Peter Langhorne, for putting together such a stimulating programme, to the conference organisers, In Conference, for their support and efficiency, and Emma Tomlinson, Network Coordinator, for holding it all together.

Mike Clarke,
on behalf of the 3rd International Clinical Trials Methodology Conference (ICTMC2015) Local Organising Committee
